Additional Check Features

The additional features of the Check section are the ability to:

  1. Promote more efficient overall learning if it is used as a pre-test to identify the child’s level of pre-existing math knowledge before instruction begins.
  2. Identify if a child understands the relevant math concept and can correctly complete the activity unsupported before moving on to a more complex math concept.
  3. Check provides opportunities for reflective discussion with a parent or teacher on how they completed an activity.
  4. Provide self-reflection opportunities for the child in relation to how well they completed an activity.
  5. Collect formative evidence for assessment purposes and/or the child’s portfolio. (On completion of a check activity the child can add their name and the date, then print out the completed activity.) There is also additional space on the printed sheet for teachers to add their comments or observations.

Check can also be used diagnostically to identify a child’s current level of understanding. If they can demonstrate mastery of a math concept, they simply move on to the next concept… if not they can repeatedly visit the relevant learn and play sections until mastery is achieved.
