How our philosophy is applied
Commonly, children have some level of mathematical skill before they begin formal education. And while they often recognise and can name some geometrical objects and mathematical symbols, their understanding of the value aspects of these symbols and objects is very limited.
To address this, our ‘Complete learning cycle’ builds on pre-existing knowledge by adding context. This enables the child to explore the value and relationship aspects of mathematical concepts. Once this is achieved, children are better able to apply foundational math concepts for themselves in a variety of contexts.
Benefits
This framework of ongoing learner-directed activity and varied contexts:
- Increases their understanding and motivation
- Improves their retention and self-confidence
- Facilitates concept mastery
- Develops problem solving and creative thinking skills.
